Take a comprehensive historyIts the 16th February 2004, its 23.00. You begin by sitting the mother down as you notice she is very anxious. One of the nurses takes the baby to do some observations. The mother is Ruth, a 23 year old unemployed housewife. She has another child of 2 years, who has a cold at the moment. Her pregnancy was normal, with normal scans. She went into spontaneous labour at 28 weeks and delivered Sarah-Jane 2 hours later. She lives in a council-owned property with her two children, a dog, a budgerigar and a goldfish. Her partner of 4 years left her about 9 months ago… At this point the nurse who has been taking the observations rushes into the room and asks you to come urgently as the baby stopped breathing when she was being weighed. You rush into the room with the scales. |
