IntroductionThis case is designed to provide an opportunity for you to apply the ATLS principles outlined in the lecture associated with this case and titled Trauma: The Primary Trauma Survey. This should be the first case that you do. Since these cases are online, they can be done on your own time. Please note that the completion of these virtual patient trauma encounters is mandatory for all students, including those on Trauma at the MGH. As with all other procedure logs, the trauma case needs to be completed before the end of your 16 week block that includes General Surgery. You are encouraged to explore as you please. (Some students knowingly like to try wrong answers just to see what happens). However, when you are asked for a free-text entry please take these seriously and complete them in a professional manner. You may want to look at the "Explanations" before starting. They will help you to understand how this application works and what is important in navigating through the case. After following the "explanations" pathway, you will end up back here. We expect you to take the exercise seriously. Poor performances will be reviewed by the program director and you may be required to repeat the case. Your participation and performance will be recorded in the virtual patient data base but will only be used anonymously as part of aggregated data (e.g. average, standard deviations, etc). By exploring this case you are implicitly giving your permission for this purpose. Have fun! Students: Please note that at the end of this case you will be expected to write a summary. You may do these cases with other students, however each summary statement should be written individually. |
